CENTURY

"From the get-go - building to a driving crescendo on the blistering opening track, "Holowreck" - Full Catastrophe qualifies as a head-bobbing, pop- and electronica-fueled powerhouse. With Marc Kelley's songs, production, guitars and all sorts of electronic toys laying the under-pinnings for these catchy, driving, dusky tracks, singer Evelyine pumps out siren-like lead and harmony vocals suitable for everything from a club dance party to a full-bore arena rock show. Infectious stuff all around."
- John Sinkevics, Local Spins

"...a unique sense of humor about their craft while producing some throwback pop/folk/rock strains with warm harmonies."
- Rachael Recker, Grand Rapids Press

"Who?"
- You

Indie pop born from the Midwest featuring soulful female vocals, ambient synth riffs, and a club tribute to Tom Hanks.

This new release "Century" is the first full length album from idiosyncratic, genre-hopping duo Full Catastrophe. The ultra-hip twosome of vocalist Evelyine and producer Marc Kelley blends pop vocals with electric guitar, gritty synthesizers and hip-hop instrumentation, thereby creating an entirely new super-genre which is all in all quite nice to listen to. A number of songs also include back up from fellow West Michigan musicians Brad Harris (Bless You Boys) on drums and Sam Kenny (Fancy Thermos) on trumpet.

The album notably features the track "Tom Hanks", a winner in the 2012 USA Songwriting Competition, as heard in the band's music video for the song.

LYRICS

HOLOWRECK

Old man in the pub says you can't take a joke
But every time you try to touch he turns to smoke
He's here and then he's gone seemingly on a whim
Wants to take your life says it belongs to him

Just take it back bye brother
Take it back and say so long
Just take it back bye brother
And when the morning comes you'll be gone

Woman in the bar she's looking mighty fine
Known for making stars and you are next in line
And if you're in good shape she'll take you on
As long as she can have your soul you know it makes her strong

If you want to see anything
I'll make it happen if you want me to
If you want to go anywhere
Let me know and I can make it true
If you want to be anyone
All you gotta do is tell me who
If you want to do anything
Let me know what I can do for you

BLOANAWEIGH

If we can disagree without discord
Everything that we've ignored
I'm reelin', ready to erupt
Just hoping I don't screw it up
Looked too long now it aches, searching was the first mistake
Let's give it one more take

And I will throw away, the meaning of it all
Cause I get blown away, whenever I'm alone with you
I'm so awake, my fantasies explode
And I am blown away, I'm blown away

I don't mind this falling free
As long as you do it with me
Drop a line, yeah, cast a spell
I'll pick you up, I'll fill your shells
Turned away, shivered and shook, but now I'll take a closer look at
All the cuts on your body

If we can disagree without discord
All the things we can't afford
So understand, try to believe
My listlessness anxiety
And while we wait it through, wait is not all that we do
Maybe it's long overdue

SUNLIGHT

Coming home, wish I'd known, just how long there was to be alone
To lay down, hear no sound, take a moment just to look around
Coming up, so abrupt, cannot guess how much will be enough
When I walk in, and we begin, all there is left is remembering

Sunlight, s'over now
Feel the weight down in the free ride
She sigh, so do I
Nobody ever apologize

Evening go, as we grow, further from the hope we used to know
In and out, blame and doubt, that was never what this was about
Close the door, say no more, can't remember what we do this for
Turn on the light, much too bright, seems too much for idle eyes

Sunlight, so fly
Feel the weight down in the free ride
We fight, all the time
Nobody ever apologize

URBADURIAN

And I worked too hard to find a way
To get myself out of this place
My hope for this is all I have to claim
And it won't be taken away

Gone away, you're gone away
In a wayward morning

And I would have jumped if I had known
The walls around me have all grown
Breaking them down and now free to roam
Ending up on your own

All alone, you're all alone
Raise it up and now it's flown
Out of time and out of home
In a wayward morning

And I worked too hard to find a way
To get myself out of this place
My hope for this is all I have to claim
And it won't be taken away

Gone away, you're gone away
Going round any day
Can I stay as you stay
In a wayward morning

Sister stingy say she want it
But she don't know, no she don't know
All the headstrong they admire it
If they say so, yeah they say so
Those well versed say to desire it
Is in vain though, all in vain though
Maybe one day they will find it
If they let go, if they let go

And I worked too hard to find a way
To get myself out of this place
My hope for this is all I have to claim
But the young ones keep it away

Far away, so far away
But the row is here to stay
They'll resist as you may
In a wayward morning

CENTURY

This has been the understatement of the century
Forty lies all in a row, and now I am on my own
And I don't need no underhanded patron to tell me
Who am I that must be told, where am I supposed to go

All along the vindication's been not what it seems
Forty lives laid down their soul, forty lies all in a row
And I will not deny that you have been good company
In our hands we hold the truth, for the men who lost their youth

See we're sailing all along
Promise I'll give you a song
We'll get out of here some day
If we ever find a way

This has been the understatement of the century
Forty lies all in a row, and now I am on my own
And I don't need no underhanded patron to tell me
Who am I that must be told, where am I supposed to go

Now we're sailing on and through
No longer can I follow you
Thought that I would not pull through
But see I saved a song for you

HMM

I don't want to find a way to get myself home
I don't want to see the day I like what I've become
I don't want to find a way and I don't see why I should
Think I'll drop cause either way, I'm feeling now

That I alone
Will die alone
Check my rhythm, see the flow
My beat is running slow, my beat is running slow

And I don't want to find a way, to make this natural
Seems too easy just to say, boy you gotta let it go

You gotta let it go, you gotta let it go, you got to let the trouble follow you
You gotta let it go, you gotta let it go, inside a mind

Cause I alone
Will die alone
Check my rhythm, see the flow
My beat is running slow, my beat is running slow

I don't want to see the day, I don't see why I should
I'll collapse and probably stay and bleed here if I could
True or false, yeah either way, it does no one no good
It's getting harder to obey, cause I'm feeling now

FALL APART

There was a time when I had it all
But I've seen everything I stand for fall
Hope you will hear this call
I'm reaching out to you

Always swore I would stand my ground
But everything changed when the walls fell down
And what must be done now
I'm calling after you

Don't let it fall apart
Don't let it go astray
Doesn't have to be so hard
Doesn't have to be this way

Never thought the enemy
Would be the one to rescue me
If that's how it's meant to be
I'm getting a message through

Seems we have a way to go
I hate to say but it looks as though
I might not make it long so
The rest is up to you

THIS IS THE WAY

How you ever gonna get by?
Tell me how you ever gonna survive
With your mouth tangled up and your body fallin' off
No iron flying through cause you're just too soft
Everything passing through living check to check
Clothes stolen by gripes, what you get you wreck
Once you tame a dead horse, nothing live inside
And it looks like it's time to ride
You're either frozen on sale or you're out getting grilled
Always trying to make change but they won't take the bill
So when you find out it's a lie are you gonna get depressed
Sucked up in a vacuum and eat yourself to death
Cause sittin' in the back never clears your mind
It looks better when it dries, try giving it time
You keep to looking to the future saying 'why am I missing?'
Turns out how you look all depends on how you listen

Every day I sing this song
Every little thing I've done is wrong
Even when I'm on my own
This is the way I'm getting myself through

How you ever gonna throw down?
Tell me how you ever gonna get around
When you're sitting on the sidelines wishing that instead
Neither trees or any bees will keep growing on your head
So cease to find my will, I know you want it
How bout a can of beans saying Gloria on it
Sorry if it's drastic, sorry if you're scared
This depiction is graphic you better be prepared
So who cares where you come from, raise the bar
You can get into the club if you give up who you are
Daydreamin' while the doctor is sneaking up behind
Got you strapped down tight leaving nothing left to find
But your body tangled up and your mouth falling off
Eyes twisted by machines when you tried to get the coffee
From the moose in the fridge in the back of your room
But I guess that's life living in a vacuum

LIVING UNDERGROUND

We're tired of trying to ask someone
Where our next can of soup comes from
Feel like we're all alone, we hear the gramophone
Seems like now everyone is talking bout
Living underground

Paulo is keeping it real
Trying to make a good deal
Information aside, well, I guess I could have lied
Did you ever wonder why they've tried
Living underground

This is the same thing that I've been waiting on you
This is the same thing that I keep pulling you through
Migrating going down, revival and rebound
This is the same thing that I been
Living underground

Pulsating pack on the thunder
And I'm beginning to wonder
Say it's the same old song, well, I guess I could be wrong, but
They seem to make it all right here
Living underground

ALL FALLS DOWN

You can try not to quit, drag the pain out a bit
But it all falls down on you
You can put up a fight, you might make it all right
But it all falls down on you

Cause freedom's just a weapon
One that we can lose
And all these fools
Breaking all the rules
They all stay in front of you

You can give it your best, measure up to success
But it all falls down on you
You can go and assume, it'll all be done soon
But it all falls down on you

It's all our own invention
We can quit if we so choose
And all these fools
Breaking all the rules
They always stay ahead of you

TOM HANKS

Out at the club and it's time for us to live it up
Keep it movin' on the dance floor, oh oh
All the boys come round talkin' want to hit it up
They've come to check out the show, oh oh

Say come on now girl don't be a tease
I got what you need and I aim to please
I'm your man and you know that it's true
Say you gonna be my fantasy
But boy if you really wanna get with me
I've got a question for you

How many rap songs have you done
With Dan Aykroyd - looks like none
How many Oscars have you won
Got to be Big in more ways than one

I live my life only for one man
Now all the boys want some, but there can just be one
And everyone's doing all they can, but
I say no thanks, I'll take Tom Hanks

Out at the club and the boys come round, they won't give up
Keep it hot cause I'm in the zone
I tease em but I leave em cause only one guy's enough
He's in a league of his own

Now I may be a little tipsy
But don't think that you're gonna fool me
They're just so hot in pursuit
I only need one type of guy
You ain't him so don't even try
To get your snake in my boot

How many times have you kissed Meg Ryan
Better tell the truth better not be lyin'
Only way that I'll give you a smooch
Is if you've been in a car with a dog named Hooch

(It doesn't matter if you watch Big, or capital B-I-G)

Tell me girl why you gotta be like that
Ya'll always up and leave when I'm coming your way
Ooh, you better back off boy, don't press your luck, you ain't enough
Come on girl just tell me where you at
Now what I gotta do, tell me what I gotta say
Shimmy shimmy, cocoa puff - everyone say

Shimmy shimmy, co-coa puff (come on now)
Shimmy shimmy, co-coa puff (everyone say)
Shimmy shimmy, co-coa puff (everyone now)
Shimmy shimmy, co-coa puff (come on now)
